Decoding Your Body's Love Letters: What Your Digestive Symptoms Are Really Telling You

How often do you say something like this?

"My stomach hates me — I can't enjoy the food I eat."

"I'm always so tired, I can't keep up."

"I hate how my skin looks. I feel so embarrassed all the time."

Or excuses such as: "I have too much to do to go out to dinner with you." — but the real reason is that you're not sure you'll have easy access to a bathroom for the whole night.

These aren't just symptoms to be tolerated or treated one by one. These are love letters sent by your body to get your attention. I know, they don't feel like love letters. We often mistake them for hate mail. But in all reality, your body is simply trying to ask for help in the most loving way it knows how. These messages may have started quietly with occasional bloating, cramping, tiredness, or mild headaches. Left unchecked, they've progressed into the frustrations that now affect your daily life and may even keep you from fully showing up for the people you love.

Body's Love Letters

Your stomach and digestive tract function as a command and communications center for your entire body. Along the vagus nerve, roughly 80% of the communication flows from the stomach to the brain — only 20% flows the other way. Your gut is talking to your brain far more than your brain is talking to your gut. And like any system, it needs quality input to produce quality output. Feed in the wrong data, and you get garbage out.

When you eat too many processed foods, high-sugar foods, or foods laden with pesticides, it destroys the good bacteria and feeds the bad — which then releases inflammatory molecules and creates a state of inflammation throughout your body. Your small intestine works constantly to sort food as it moves through, sending toxins and unwanted material to the liver for detoxification and removal. Your immune system samples everything you eat, doing its best to bring the fire under control — but when the load is too great, it becomes overwhelmed. Soon, symptoms you recognize start popping up: body aches, brain fog, poor sleep, anxiety, skin rashes or acne, food sensitivities, bloating, gas, constipation, loose stools — the list goes on.

These aren't separate symptoms to be treated individually. Together, they form one complete love letter from your body — a message that your command and communications center, in other words, your digestive system needs support.

Supporting your digestive health is the most important place to start. Listening to your body's love letters — recognizing them as a message asking for help — is the first step. Through functional testing with the GI-MAP and MRT, we can directly decode those letters. The GI-MAP is a stool test that evaluates the health of your digestive tract, your microbiome, and the presence of pathogens like H. pylori, yeast, or parasites, looking at how every part of your digestive system is working together. Paired with the MRT, we can determine whether food sensitivities are impacting your digestion and contributing to your symptoms.

From there, we look at nourishing your microbiome with a diverse range of colorful whole foods, fibers, spices, and herbs that encourage the growth of good bacteria. This matters more than most people realize: your microbiome produces roughly 50% of the essential compounds circulating in your bloodstream — compounds your body cannot make on its own. These are only created when your gut microbes interact with the food you eat and convert it into what your body needs to function. When we don't feed the microbiome with a variety of quality food, the output of those essential compounds drops — and every body system feels it, from your immune function and hormone production to your energy and mood.

Let's look at your whole health, connect all the messages your body is sending, and help you find your way back to living life fully with the ones you love. I'll build a personalized herbal protocol based on your specific needs and test results, and we'll work together over 4–6 months to build your foundations of health through digestion, sleep, stress management, movement, and nutrition. You'll build a toolkit to tackle life's challenges — and learn to decode those love letters so their messages no longer derail your everyday life.
